29th continued service and excellence - UP StatSoc

The UP Statistical Society, the pioneer organization of Statistics majors in the University of the Philippines Diliman will celebrate its 29th year of continued exemplary service to the Filipino community and soaring excellence in the field of statistics.  In connection with this, we will hold a couple of activities throughout the whole anniversary week. Everyone is excited and every one's working on it. It's gonna be an exciting week which would be full of great fun. With the 29th year of this organization, we will assure everyone that our passion and dedication to serve and promote interest in the field of statistics won't cease. It would continue to grow. And even as we pass the torch to the next generation of statistics majors, the fire it carries will still be the same.

A 'major major' achievement

Venus Raj was declared the fourth runner up from the recent Miss Universe pageant held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It wasn't bad at all. Being at the top 5 out of the 83 contestants is already a great honor and a 'major major' achievement. Many said she could have won the crown as this year's Miss Universe if she answered Mr. Baldwin's question during the Q&A portion well. "What is one mistake that you've made in your life and what did you do to make it right?", asked Mr. Baldwin. She first thanked Mr. Baldwin and greeted the crowd. The she answered, "“You know what, Sir in my 22 years of existence I can say that there is nothing major major, I mean, problem that I have done in my life. Because I am very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So, thank you so much that I am here, thank you thank you so much." Her answer became a trending topic for a couple of weeks especially the "major major" thing. Nonetheless, we can't deny the fact that she did well in the stiff competition and she made many Filipinos proud again.

The song "Grace" by Silers Bald is one of my favorites. I listen to it oftentimes and each time I do it, I feel relaxed and am left amazed by the truth the song brings. Below is its lyrics:

My heart is so proud.
My eyes are so unfocused.
I see the things You've done through me
As great things I have done.
And now You gently break me.
I cry just like a baby.
You hold me as my Father,
And mold me as my Maker.

And I ask You
How many times will You pick me up.
When I keep on letting You down?
And each time I will fall short of Your glory,
How far will forgiveness aboud?
And You answer, "My child, I love you,
And as long as you're seeking My face,
You'll walk in the power of My daily sufficient, grace."
At times I may grow weak.
And feel a bit discouraged.
Knowing that someone somewhere
Can do a better job.
For who am I to serve You?
I know, I don't deserve You.
But that's the part, that burns in my heart,
And keeps me hanging on.

And You are so patient with me, Lord.
As I walk with You, I'm learning
About what Your grace really means.
How all of my transgressions
Were paid at Calvary.
So istead of trying to repay You,
I'm learning to simply obey You.
By giving up my life to You
For all that You've given to me.

"My daily sufficient grace."
